  • Mountain Pacific Meter Tech Services INC, provides meter testing programs and services that comply with AWWA standards as identified in the M6 Manual for Meter Testing

  • The only way to determine whether a meter is operating efficiently is to test it! A water meter, like any other mechanical device, is subject to wear and deterioration and, over a period of time, loses it's peak efficiency. Manufacturers are required to provide National Institute of Standards and Technology, US Department of Commerce (NIST) certified meter test results when meters are purchased, but it's up to the Utility to test for accuracy after installation.

  • When entered into a database, a complete history throughout the life of the meter will show how long meters are operating efficiently, and accurately recording usage in your system. This has a direct bearing on revenue as wear and disrepair can lead to drastic inaccuracy of meters.

  • Testing Programs that follow AWWA standards recommend that a utility test a minimum of 10% of the system's total meters annually, on a ten year cycle.

  • Larger meters should be tested more frequently, as errors will affect revenue to a much greater extent. Larger, and high production meters should be tested on a annual basis.

  • Ongoing meter testing programs have long been advocated by the AWWA and are required by most public Utility Commissions and other regulatory agencies. Accurate Flow Recording is also part of compliance with all NPDES discharge permits and PWS reporting as required by the Environment Department and EPA requirements. It is in the best interest of both the utility and the customer that testing of meters be part of an ongoing maintenance program to encourage conservation, identify important distribution system issues, and to prevent water loss and unaccounted for water usage.
